Default Ram Mileage

I'm just amazed at the wide variations in fuel economy with all the Ram 1500s. I have a 2010 Quad Cab SLT 4.7, 3:73 Amsoil 5w-20 OE full synthetic oil and have never been under 16.4 mpg (in winter). I average 17.8-18.2 (about 80% highway) and 16.8-17.4 (80% city). Truck is 100% stock.

Maybe I do several things most would not do. I always watch the info panel and keep the truck in the "eco" mode. Dificult when I first started, but second nature now. Also, my tires are kept at 41 lbs (1 lb over stock, but well within the range of gauge error) And the third thing is avoiding jackrabbit or too many stops and starts. Also, as when I had my airplane, keeping the tank full eliminated evaporation when not using it since a partial tank allows more airspace to allow more evaporation. (I know, partially eliminated by the truck's closed fuel return system, but some evaporation still takes place)

Maybe I go too far, but if it all adds up to better mileage, I'll keep doing it...I love my truck!

This is basically the same for me. I might get slightly better gas mileage, but not much (I am 2wd though). I also have a tuner and intake.

Hey everybody, like all of you here, I can't get pass the HEMI signs left and right when I do search on a 4.7L 2009 RAM. I have been looking for something very particular and I can't seem to find it... and apparently, nobody wants to manufacture it. Like every V8 owner, we want to get a great sounding engine, but I can't seem to find "HEADERS" for my RAM.

Has anybody had the luck of finding a manufacturer that makes HEADERS for 4.7L 2009-2011 Dodge Rams??

I even tried contacting various companies that make CUSTOM HEADERS and even they can't seem to make then for this specific vehicle. Need your support here. I need the extra torque and HP for work without touching the ECU...... YET!!!! :-D

you mean for the 2008-20011 4.7L engines (2nd gen)....

and you are right, no one mass produce headers for our trucks, we have a thread going on about trying to find a company to make a set for us... we been runnning into dead ends.

As for extra power, tried after market Y pipe and muffler? CAI intake (even the K&N open top works better the the factory)? Electric Fan mod?

There are other ways to get more RWHP and Torque without touching the computer or headers.

Yep drake is right, we have contacted gibson(they are supposedly developing them, to be released in the next few months...but we'll see if that happens), OBX(supposedly considering making them)....pacesetter said no, can't remember who else we tried. They would be shorties if they were made. I'd LOVE to have a set for my truck. Even been thinking about buying a set of shorties, and cutting the collectors off and extending the primaries to make them "shongtubes"...lol

Like he said though there are other ways to get more power. superchips(or diablo) is the best bang for the buck, I know you said you dont want to touch the computer but the supechips gives 50hp and 55lb ft max gain. Intake, y pipe and muffler, all great mods. Gearing is another thing but it is expensive...with just the superchips and my airaid jr intake I run with stock hemis. I can beat the first gen hemis.

I'm not sure I believe that superchips can add so much. Im thinking about buying the setup and doing dyno runs before and after.

Here's the dyno:

No need to dyno yours but you certainly could....if you did and it came up different (the difference between stock and their tune, not the actual numbers) there would be major issues with customers vs. superchips! lol

Not sure if you know this or not too.....it's 50hp and 55lb ft MAX gain, not peak gain...

Not sure if this happened for all others viewing, but the pic cut off the rpm's in my screen....the center rpm line is 4500 rpm, and each line is 250 rpm increments...

Look just about 4750 rpm, there's about 50hp and 55lb ft gain at this rpm.

Peak gains are about 13hp and 33lb ft (very impressive)!

looks like it gives more overall power, especially in the low end.

Yeah a very large torque increase throughout the whole rpm range, very impressive...it is very noticeable too
