Funny, in high school, hell yeah. I had straight pipes. All of four feet behind the headers, just straight piped with a turn down. Fast forward ten years, and hell no. I like the ultimate sleeper these days. Quiet at cruise then WHAM! Bites ya...

This is what i did on my 4.7, i just cut off everything from the muffler back, everything esle is stock, it does sound amazing, nice and throaty on start up, quiets down after a few seconds to a magnaflow sounding exhaust, and sounds like a FREAKIN BEAST when im out wheelin slingin mudd all over the place.

I eliminated my muffler on my 2002 Ram 4.7. Went to local NAPA store, bought the 3 inch inlet, dual 2.5 outlet y pipe, filled in the voids with I.D. X I.D. couplers and now it is loud and proud!! hasn't hurt fuel mileage one bit. It is very noticeable when you put your foot to the floor. Even has a nice rumble when you kick out the OD switch, and or downshift.

I like a nice throaty exhaust, I don't need the super loud effect though. I'm considering puttin a thrush on it. Anybody head thrush on the 5.7 with dual tips?

I was able to unbolt my stock muffler, took it to an exhaust shop, held it up and said, "Can you make this in a straight pipe?" A 30some inch length of 3" pipe, a couple of bends and $20 for the pipe and a couple of clamps and the truck has the sound it should have. I had the pipe bent where the 45 degree bends were more toward one end so that I had room to put a small glasspack if needed. So far I'm happy with it. I can hear it when going down the road but it's not so obtrusive that it's annoying.

Ive been considering straight pipes and almost did it but the one thing ive kept reading is that people typically lose alot of low end power. Has anyone experienced this? Id love the high end gain but do not want to lose my low end due to frequently towing 4,000+ lbs and having to take off up a hill from a stop.

Default Straight Pipes

My father just traded off his 90 F150 with straight pipes. It was quieter than my SRT when you get on it. He was running 3" off of the cat straight back to the rear bumper. He is 82 years young.
