Default Cheap n Easy Fog Light Upgrade

Hello all,
I was doing a bulb upgrade to Silverstar Ultras in the headlights, and while looking at the bulbs on the shelf I noticed that the 9007 bulbs used in the headlights are identical to the 9145s used in the fog lights. The difference is the output, the 9007s are 65w and the 9145s are 45w. I bought the 9007s and the H11s for the headlight high and low beams. Then when I got home, I used the old stock 9007s to replace the 9145s that are in the fog lights. The physical dimensions and connections are identical. I am very pleased with the results. The headlights as well as the fog lights are both noticealbly brighter, especially the fogs.

Good job! I would just worry about the wattage being too much for the fog light wiring harness or the fog light lenses getting too hot. Keep an eye on it.

It should be ok with the wiring since the wires to the lamp are 18 ga. and the new bulbs will pull about 5 amps each. Lenses are another issue. Some of them will have the maximum wattage rating stamped on them somewhere.

Ok guys, first long trip with lights on for extended period of time (about 4 1/2 hrs.) I took your advice and kept an eye on the fogs and I am happy to say that as of now there is no sign of ill-effects. When I stopped for gas I crawled under with the lights on and felt around and there wasnt any hot wires, no change in the lenses. I checked again in the daylight today and saw nothing wrong. I will still monitor them but I think Its all good.

what about the silverstars down in the fogs as well? Do they throw more heat? or would they run about the same? having all the lights match would look nice. Just a thought.
