Sounds like what my 1500 Laramie does.
It only happens when I'm driving in "economy" mode (thus the "on and off" you mention). I believe it's the engine running on 4 cylinders due to the VVT function during economy mode. It's much more pronounced on the RAM than MDS was on our '06 Charger R/T. This might be due to the difference in chassis.
That's my guess as to what you're feeling.

I keep getting a "check engine" which is #3 cylinder misfire. As long as I don't get on the gas this does not occur. Could this be the ECM causing it or MDS? (I have a OBD reader)
