Angry Condenser relay error msg with an intermittent compresser

My 02' Quad cab recently had the A/C go out and it's been driving my nuts with trying to find the problem. It started with an engine code that said it was the Condenser fan relay.

I pulled the relay, and replaced it for $12. no biggie. Still didn't solve the problem.

I took it to the dealer to have the run a full diagnostic on it, and they told me that the fan wasn't working anymore. Sooooo I replaced the fan+shroud because now the sell it as a full assy. STILL...nothing changed.

I ran the truck with the new fan motor, and noticed how the truck was acting.

I noticed that when i first turn on the A/C that the air is cold for about a min and then i can hear the clutch on the compressor turning on and off running intermittently. I also noticed that the new fan won't kick on to cool down the condenser either.

Does anyone have any idea what the hell is going on ???

Have you hooked up the guages and checked the system pressures ?

not yet... I don't have the gauges for it. I know i need to invest in some but i just don't have the money for it yet with me getting ready to rebuild the lower end.

You think low coolant pressure is kicking the compressor on and off ??? because it does it at idle and at a higher RPM.

ok...i'll go get a refill kit today then. Now i heard thru the grapevine that Dodge is very particular about on how you recharge your a/c system. would just a regular refill kit work or do i need to get the gauge system to monitor both sides?

Also...why wouldn't the condenser fan be kicking on still? both the relay and the fan have been replaced

The fan may only come on when your high side pressure reaches a certain pressure . You can buy a small can with the refill hose attached to it and give it a shot . Then see what happens . Let us know .

Could be a loose connection, bad pressure switch, low refirgerant charge, evap freeze up...

i haven't noticed any loose connections, and i know it's not a low refrigerant level because it blows cold for a min, and the pressure gauge on the low side was peaked out when the system was running.
I didn't think about the pressure switch on the compressor till last night. I need to fix this damn thing quick. 106 Texas heat is killing me !! lol But this is the first time I've ever had to locate and fix a problem on a A/C system. Is there a trouble shooting guide i can use ??

It's starting to sound more like a electrical problem . If your condensor fan doesn't turn on your pressures will get pretty high . If you have to , unplug the power wire from the compressor and run a jumper wire to the compressor and see how it does . Definitely make sure that condensor fan does turn on .
