Default to Jet or Not to Jet??

I bought my '97 with jet chip installed. I will say it has a somewhat more aggressive shift to it... but for horsepower not so sure on that. Also tuning. I just hung a new turbo muffler on it, (as opposed to 'lack of'). after 30 miles or so, I crawled under to check the hardware for tightness, and noticed the inside is already 'colored'. a month ago, I checked gas mileage... almost 18. I was very pleased. Since then, I put in new plugs wires cap rotor and replaced the plenum gasket. keep in mind the exaust was 'open' when I got that good mileage. I was surprised.
If I 'loose' the jet chip.... and go with a 'super chip'.... what all is involved?
unplug the old chip and replace with new? thats it? Is it even worth the 300+ bucks? If It does help with horsepressure 'when needed'.... and fuel consumption "when allowed" I will change it tomorrow.
I have seen NO good reports on the jet chip in here....

whaddya think?
Bob

Personally I've never heard anything good about the Jet chips. I've heard good reports from previous customers about the Superchips and even though the horsepower wasn't the biggest difference it was more a gas difference. They were happy with it though. Let me know if you have any questions though.

I only know 2 members who ran the jet chip and both were dissappointed in their response, so I can only comment on what I've heard from them. If you want to let us know how is works out for you we'd be glad for some more input on the jet chip.

Default after a nite of seaching:

ok, what I came up with for the '97 is this: confusion.
LOL, If I read most sites correctly, '98 and up is when most tuners/chips get popular. Not much said for the '97 and down models. Unless Jet or some other 'no name' brands come up in Ebay.
What I really really want to do with my '97, is have a programmer that makes dang sure tuning is spot on, on normal pump gas. (89 octane). Not looking for 'light the tires' type horsepower, but something that would optimize all the curves. And if and when I do lose the cat, that it would not be affected. I do not live in a emission check area, but don't want the 'check engine' light to come on either. Like I said before, added HP when needed, and increased mileage when 'allowed'.
Is there now, or ever been a 'chip' built for that? I been told on here that superchips is the way to go. All I see is for models '98 and up.
I was hoping to get rid of the Jet chip hanging on the bulkhead disconnect and try a brand that everyone has rave reveiws on!

I am just learning the 'lingo'. I assume 'flashpac' means to overwrite existing software?
I assume what I need is a 'go between' type management system. Correct?

I was checking Superchips site and they didn't have anything for your year. Maybe give them a call and see if they have anything available.
