When in 4L you'll run high rpms and not go much. 4L is for creeping and maximum traction. Turning on dry pavement in 4wd is bad for the front end and the transfer case. It is also why you were getting the "jerking" aka wheel hop.

well i know for sure the 4H is working now...the light still didnt go on but i was in a loose gravel lot and i first drove around in 2h and the back of the truck was sliding around and the tires where spinning...i then put it in 4H and drove around and i didnt feel that jerking like i did on dry pavement and i could feel the 4wd on besides the fact the back wasnt sliding out or spinning the tires =) so i can rest assure now and wait for winter...when i have my next shop day in school im gonna put it up on the lift and have one of my instructors look at it regardless and see whats up with the 4L and also why my light isnt coming on.

You may have a burned out bulb or a broken connection under the truck at the switch .

its funny you say that cuz theres a wire hanging from under the front end...kind of under the front axle between the center of the truck and the right front wheel

The jerking is normal when turning on dry pavement, it's caused by the two front tires trying to turn at the same speed but taking different turning radii. Normally, anything but a gentle turn will result in that balking, as for the 4LO, I know I had to rev mine up to about 2500RPM to get it to even begin to move in my old '98
