Default Doing a warranty sanity check...

Guys-

Just a sanity check as I've already called customer service about this but...

Since my truck was a demo (it was put into service by the dealership in April, and I bought the truck in July of this year), do I lose the three months that it was in service in terms of my warranty or do they start the warranty from the day I purchase it at the dealership?

I thought the purpose of a demo was for the dealer to use the vehicle for demo purposes (whatever that means) and then resell it as a NEW vehicle, even though it was technically "sold" and used by the dealer first.

I had never bought a demo before, and admittedly, I never even considered the warranty issue until recently. A few months won't kill me, but I just would like to make sure that I've lost those three months for sure...

Thanks in advance,

The warranty starts on the day you bought the truck, not when they had it for a demo. However you will lose whatever miles they put on. So say it had 2000 miles and you have a 3/36 warranty you would only have 34k left on the warranty but the full 3 years from the date you bought the truck.

I used to be a warranty clerk and the way warranties USED to work was this: The warranty starts on an "in service date". That date is given starting the day of purchase/titling. So if the dealership never titled it, then the trucks warranty started the day it was first titled be it by you or whomever. You need to call the dealership and see if the vehicle has previously titled by them. If you feel you aren't getting answers, then contact your DMV (Dept of Motor Vehicles/tag office) and see if the vehicle was previously titled.

Excellent - I'm going to do this tomorrow because there seems to be some confusion between Dodge and my dealer regarding this.

Thanks for the clarification on the mileage - ya know, with all the research I did and with all the useless info rattling around between my two ears, I have to admit that I thought the warranty started the day I titled the truck rather than the dealer.

icOVERu - I was told exactly as you posted - that the in-service date dictates the time on the coverage. I will confirm what this in-service date was with my dealer tomorrow.

As usual, this board rules!

Thanks!
