I have a question for you two guys. I have a stock 06 mega cab with the 7 speaker infinity system. Like everyone else I want better sound quality. I however would like to keep the stock HU. I like the look of a stock dash. Is there any way to improve the sound with out a total redo of everything. I know the stock amp is underpowered and dont quit understand the crossover idea?? But I know there were after market amps that were plug and play , but the mega cab that year was not offered by kicker. I dont really care about huge bass, but would like it to sound a little better (clearer). I have thought about speaker replacement all the way around (except center) but after reading many post, I feel skeptical it will help without running new wires and new amp. I am sure this topic has been covered many times, but many different answers have been made. I have read many of your 2 guys post and feel you guys are very knowledgeable on this. Money is not a huge factor, I just don't know if I have the knowledge to rip out the existing amp and HU and start running wires everywhere. I was into this thing about about 10-15 years ago and had some good systems back then, I have many componets from that era , but much is propably obsolete by now. I am spolied becasue I have a system in the house with klipsch speakers and bang and olufsen decks. And to say it sound good is an understatement. I just want a simple fix, not a cheap fix. Thanks

here is the set up I am considering for my sound system upgrade.

I am going to keep the stock HU so I'll get some sort of line out attachment to give me RCA outs for the sub.

Dash speakers - http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-3-5...7188896&sr=8-1

Door speakers - http://www.amazon.com/Brand-MTX-Thun...189114&sr=1-13
or
http://www.amazon.com/Rockford-Fosga...7189114&sr=1-1

Then for the sub I'm ordering a Fox Acoustics single sided upfire box and putting in a square kicker if it will fit.
http://www.amazon.com/Kicker-08S10L7...7189758&sr=1-5
If that doesn't fit then I'll put in a 10 inch sub of some sort.

As for the amp, I'm not sure.. Ill need a 7 channel amp to power it all correct? Or can I go with say a 5 channel amp? one channel for each door, and one for the sub? (dash speakers would get their signal off the front door speakers)

Anything I should do different? As you can see I'm on a budget but I think this set up would definitely be an upgrade to what I have now.

Don't take this the wrong way, but about the only upgrade over stock is going to be the subwoofer.

Sorry man, I musta missed it. Only thing I've ever done with the Infinity system is add a subwoofer to it. You could look into a multi-channel line out converter... like the AudioControl LC8i or LC6i to hook up aftermarket amps. It has signal summing which combines all the channels together for a nice flat output.

Oaky, I read up on the line output converter. So this would go between the stock HU and the stock amp? Then run line outputs to the new amp , then amp to sub. Is that correct or would it completely replace the factory amp and all speakers and amps would source from it? Is there a harness available for the HU to multi hook up or is it all cut and solder?

Actually that unit would wire in after the stock amp and before your aftermarket amp. The head unit has no volume capabilities without the amplifier, so if you connected to the two wires going from it to the factory amp, you'd have output, just no way to adjust the volume. Theoretically, you can use other pieces like the CleanSweep which accept high voltage inputs and have their own volume control, but I really haven't seen this method done.

If all you are doing is adding a sub, tie in the LOC to the front speaker wires behind the kick panel AFTER the infinity amp..
