Well it appears that I am a bit late in posting as I have already bought replacement speakers for my Ram. I sure wish I had found this thread yesterday.

Anyway I have a Reg Cab with the 430 Infinity system installed. I have owned 2 other Rams and simply replaced the factory speakers and got great sound. From what I am reading I may not be happy with the end result this time.

What I have so far is Alpine SPR-69C 6 x 9 Coaxial 2-Way for the front doors, Alpine Type-R SPR-17C 6.5" 2-way coaxial for behind the seats and Infinity Reference 3032cf 3.5-Inch, 2-Way Loudspeakers for the dash.

I was hoping to just swap out the speakers and call it a day but would like some input from you guys as to what I should do.

Thanks in advance.

I want to keep my stock radio and do need the space behind my seats for travel. Nothing too big. I was really hoping to just swap speakers and be good to go.

Any suggestions?

I suggest you go ahead and do the install. They might sound a lot better to you.

If the stock Alpine amp doesn't meet the power requirements of the speakers, and you can get the specs for the speakers pretty easily but it may take a call to Alpine to get the info on the amp, then you may want to consider an amp upgrade sometime in the future.

When upgrading an amp in the MOPAR products, you'll need a PacAudio C2ACHY adapter harness to make it work.

Thanks MADDOG, I was looking at the PAC harness just yesterday. One of the things that really got me thinking that I may not be happy is what I read from chithead, He posted that the factory amp has signals going in crazy directions and it may not sound good to just swap speakers. That is when I posted and started thinking about the possibility of adding a new amp and just bypass the factory stuff.

Yeah, a lot of folks have done that and I am planning the same thing. Even though I have 6 speakers in my system, I'll end up driving two sets on one set of outputs and the other pair on the other.

I was reading about the Alpine PDX-5 and it looks like a leading contender should I go the new amp route. I am thinking I could do a 6.5 component in the front door, a 3.5 2-way in the dash and the 6.5 2-way I already have for behind the seat. I could then have the option to run a small sub if I wanted more punch.

I did a similar build in a Tundra I owned. I used an Alpine head unit, Phoenix Gold amps (2), MB Quart Components, JL subs, new wires to everything (no factory crap) and the whole cab dynamated. It sounded awesome and was not cheap. I really don't want to do that to this one but it ain't looking good.

Whatever I finally do, I will be keeping the stock radio but everything else is debatable. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Got a ? for you guys.

Last night I was listening to my ipod on my REC radio, under the VES tab. Stopped at a store real quick, came out (less than 5 min) started the truck up and the ves tab has disappeared I can not get it to come back. Is there something i can do besides rip out the Bezel to see if something went bad with the iPacCHY? Thanks Jared and Daniel in advanced.

Interesting... I assume you've already tried unplugging the iPod for a bit and plugging back in to see if anything resets... might have to reset the radio.

Yeah I unplugged it and plugged it back in, but nothing happened. The dealer just put this radio in about 3/4 weeks ago so I'm wondering if they left something loose in the back. I may tackle it later if I get caught up on all this homework I have.
