I've given up on the 3 JL think line cause price is crazy and it isn't going to work.

I'm wanting to put two 12's under the rear seat. I'm trying to get about 1 foot of airspace. Anyone built a box like that before? I've got one now for two 10's that gets me .8 of airspace per speaker and I have me seat raised about 3 inches but I'm really looking for two 12's with about a foot of air space. I know I may have to go the fiberglass direction but if anyone has done this some demensions would be great.

Default Confused about OHMS

Ok does the ohms rating on a speaker make a difference in how much power is needed to drive them and does 2 ohm hit harder then 4 ohm or 8 ohm?
I have a 2007 1500 quad cab that i want to put in some subs and an amp.

Ohms on the voice coil(s) determines how much of a draw the speaker has on the amplifier and how much power the amplifier will produce.

Lower the number means the amp will try to produce more power, but with this power comes great responsibility (sorry couldn't resist). It also increases the strain on the truck's electrical system unless the amp has a regulated power supply. Amps have to work harder at 2 ohms than they do at 4 and 8-ohms, this can produce more heat on certain models of amps and possibly lower the life expectancy as well.

It's difficult to say whether the 2-ohm will hit harder than a 4 or 8-ohm, unless it's the same style speaker. I have heard some 8-ohm subs that hit "harder" than some 2-ohm subs. Installation and equipment choices will be the two biggest factors to determine the outcome.

What subwoofers and amplifier are you looking at?

I am looking at this box http://caraudiofactory.com/20022009-...64e843487d17dc and possible some kicker 10s and kicker amp. I live about 45mins from were kicker components are made so they are popular around here.
I have already replaced my stock 6x9s in the front doors with some Polk 6x9s and it sounds 100% better already but I still need some kick.

That box seems ok.

Have you looked at the newer Polk MM line of subwoofers? Great bang for the buck...

My honest opinion, I've never heard an under the rear seat box that impresses me.

That is going to cause some waves I know, but it's the truth. Downfiring under the center console or a rear fire center console has yielded the most impressive results in my installs.

I know that's going to pizz some people off, but under the rear seat is definitely not the ideal location for accurate sound reproduction. It's ok for a little more "bump". Getting that bass as far forward as you can is the key to better blending with the front stage.

To be honest some of the cleanest, loudest and deepest bass i have heard in a vehicle driving by was from a supercab style truck. Maybe its just because there is no trunk rattle or the overall design of these vehicles...i dont know but they tend to sound great. I'm thinking that 2 downfiring 12s is what makes the magic. I am on my way out of the sedan world and just entering the truck world so im a noob to what makes the best bass out of a truck. I was thinking that 2 12" downfiring jl w3s(or similar) should do the trick. Any comments and/or suggestions are welcome.
