Default More crossover questions

This may be a stupid question, but here goes...

I'm tossing up the idea of getting some nicer (slightly, not going crazy) component speakers. The crossovers for the new set are apparently huge. I was wondering if I would be stupid to buy the speakers and try to run them off of the crossover I already have installed. The only reason I want to do this is because the crossovers I have now fit inside the door panel and make wiring a breeze.

I guess a second tier to this question is how much difference will an upgraded crossover really make compared to the one I'm currently using?

Crossovers that come with a component set are matched to the speakers. While using different crossovers "probably" wouldnt be a problem, you may end up having a driver thats having to play higher than rated or a tweet thats having to play lower than rated, thus decreasing speaker life and distorting sound quality....

Now, if the crossover points on both crossovers are the same, no harm no foul...

Use the crossovers that come with the speakers. The manufacturer adjusted the crossover points to the speakers.

Will it work, YES

If you can do some research and check the crossover specs (i.e., what freq they crossover at) and if your current crossovers match that spec for the new set, yer good to go. Otherwise, it won't sound as good to you as noted by dodgeman70592.

Ok, I'll look into it.

By the way, if you guys have any recommendations for 6.5" component speakers that will run well at 50-70 watts RMS at 4 ohms that cost less than $200 I'm all ears...

I've been eyeing the MB Quart PVI-216's. They've gotten some pretty solid reviews by other customers that I've seen and apparently they have great midbass. I haven't followed the audio brands for years, so I pretty much figure that if I go with MB Quart or JL I'm safe, but you guys probably have some more insight
