Default Amp Research steps

I am thinking about putting amp power steps on my laramie anyone using them? I live in the north, lots of cold and snow do you think that will be a problem for the retractable steps or the motors?

I would think the first thing you may experience is having them freeze in place when they get covered with slush.

Just my opinion, power steps are an expensive thing to have go wrong when they clogged up with ice, sleet, snow, road salt, etc, etc, etc.

There are some really nice looking step bars out there and not just the ones the dealer carries. I'd suggest checking them out.

one thing i dont like about the step bars is they make the truck look lower which bothers me lol. And cant afford to do a lift to make up for that so i live without any bars

I'm in the same boat as Unlimited. I don't like the look of step bars, but like the function. For now, I'm going without. The AMP researcher ones look pretty cool, but wow are they pricey.

I had them on my F250 (Don't shoot) and they had a very high "WOW" factor to go with their price tag. They extend and retract very fast and offer a very wide surface to step on. They also extend out farther than most fixed mount steps, which makes them much more user friendly. All that being said, there were times when I had so much mud on them that you couldn't even see the step and they still closed. The actual motors are placed in such a way that I do not think they would freeze or fail to open because of ice or snow. I thought about a set for my RAM but, I just couldn't bring myself to spend $1300+ on some side steps again.

if you love them $1,300+ then by all means but for me that $1,300 is step rails, spray in bed liner, vent visors, exhaust, tuner, and CAI etc

I would imagine that they are made to take lots of abuse. It must be made to take the extreme weather or else they would not put them on a TRUCK! Really we are in 2010 and electronics did not just come out haha. I would imagine they can take a beating since it is made for a Ram. Thats my opinion, if you buy them and something happens not my fault hahaha

I have them on my 09 and live in an area that gets snow (Western PA). No issues so far. I do have the Mopar molded splash guards, not sure if that matters, but no issues with snow and ice buildup. And that is coming off of a very snowy year, the most in many, many years. Even if they would freeze for some reason, it does no harm as the motors are designed to stop under a load. In fact, that is how you clean the steps. Open the door, put your foot on the step, and close the door. The steps do not retract. The truck looks way better than with some ugly stuck on tubes. They were ok on the 3rd gen trucks but completely ruin a 4th gen's looks IMHO.

Go to Electric Step, you can get them for about $1,100. They also have an LED light kit, didn't get one for mine though. Bought mine through them, best price around, super fast shipping.

If you have any questions or want pictures, feel free to PM me. The install isn't bad if you have some mechanical ability.

Thank you all for the replies. I know they are a lot of money but the thing is I want steps but feel yhat the bars or fibreglass one ruin the clean line of the truck. Topgun I sure would like some pics and will pm you the 09 is the same as the 10 isnt it?
