Default A/C Compressor Clicking on and off, Refrigerant Question

I read around that it could be low, my question is what is the capacity of refrigerant that it holds? (1996 Ram 1500 5.9L V8)

I know it takes R-134a, is there anything special I need to recharge it? or can a just buy some cans of R-134a at advance?

I believe it's around 30oz's. If the compressor is cycling it is likely low so no need for specalized equipment. It sounds like you should be able to buy a couple of cans or R-134a and top it up yourself. Only add it to the low side of the system. Also be careful not to overcharge it. Just add the freon until the compressor stops cycling and the large low pressure line coming off the compressor starts to get cold. Be careful and follow all the instructions that come with the cans. Please remember that I am not a mechanic however I have worked installing aftermarket A/C systems. If this fails to correct the problem you should take it to a professional. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
