Default homer simpson moment...

I was talking with a guy in my unit today and mentioned to him about what horrible fuel mileage I've been gettin and he suggested getting a programmer to tune my computer chips or whatever. (Doh) As I am pretty new to the whole Idea of upgrades and all the things that are possible I looked up how much these tuners cost and was floored by the prices. So my qwestion is how do I get a tune on my truck without having to dropp 2 or 300 bucks I don't have? Appreciate any help ya'll can give on the subject.

Hello there. My best thought on this would be to check for used ones. For example, check places like Craigslist. Being that you are military like us, check any classifieds published in the PX or Commissary. Just my $.02. BTW, we have a section for military, check it out. You're eligible for a military badge:

You can either spend $2-300 on a tuner now, or 3 times that at the pumps over the next couple of years. Or if you have an expendable habit like me (smoking), you can stop for a while, but put the money away every day, and buy the tuner in less than a month!

Not much you can do but buy a used programmer for a bit less but beware, used programmers have no warranty and you have to be careful that the seller has returned their vehicle to stock before they sell it. Otherwise, it's VIN locked to their vehicle and you won't be able to use it.

Sometimes SuperChips has a return, refurbished programmer sale and they warranty the programmers. You might check with them.
