Default Help Back-up Camera?

Guys my wife took my truck in to have steps, mud flaps, bed cover and spray in liner installed today and now whe says when she puts it in reverse the back-up camera just shows black.

I am wondering if you guys could give me a little insight into what might be wrong so I can help her as I am deployed right now and we are doing this via email and phone.

Thanks in advance,
Jay

Yikes, that's not good! I take it she took it to the dealer to have those things installed? If so, I would recommend she take it right back and let them figure out what happened there because I just don't see where any of those mods would affect the camera, but then again, I don't have a 4th gen, either, but good luck and keep us posted! Thank you for your service, BTW!

Not to the dealer but to the off-road place across the street that I have used for years. Yeah, I told her to take it back to him if I don't get an answer to help her by morning.

wonder if they unplugged the camera harness from the tailgate to be able to take it off/spray the bed?

IIRC it plugs in to the bottom of the tail gate. get her to check that. if its still plugged in, then there might be a more serious problem

x2.

They probably removed the tailgate to spray it properly and never re-hooked the harness back up, or screwed something up in doing so.

the people that do the spraying ALWAYS take the tailgate completely off, so that is my first thought as well
If that is not the problem, i would go see the dealership, if its quite a distance away, just wait until its time for a oil change, if thats an option

May just need to take it to the dealership and have the radio "flashed". It basically updates the radio and gets the glitches out. That radio is famous for that.

Made me wonder with this thread, do the backup cams come pre-wired in the 2010's? I have a laramie if it makes a difference. And if so, what would be the figuring to install one (factory) myself do you think?

the backup camera comes in one model of the tailgate handle, the other handle just has the locking tailgate handle, the early '09 Rams came without the locking handle, so that type is the 3rd type handle.

I may be incorrect on this, BUT..
The tailgate handles are all accessible through the panel on the inside of the tailgate, the kit for the camera handle comes with everything that you need, mine came in 2 boxes, if i remember correctly, in 1 of the boxes there was a CD that has the instructions, the most difficult part is taking the radio out of the dash. Your radio needs to be the type that has the screen. Otherwise purchase a camera kit from a website & most of those have a separate screen

at least 1 of this forumz members did a write up on his install
