Default ABS Issue - 2012 Ram 5.7 2WD

This may or may not be electrical related, but since there is no brake problems sub-forum, I am posting here.

My ABS & Traction control lights have recently been coming on. While moving forward from a stop, using light acceleration, there is a strange noise and shudder coming from just in front of the driver area. I believe this to be the ABS module or hydraulic control unit making a noise. After this happens several times, the ABS/traction control lights come on, which disables both of these functions, as well as cruise control. After driving a while or successive starts, the lights will go off, only to come back on again during the next light acceleration. If I use moderate throttle when taking off, the light usually doesn't come on. Slow turning seems to make the problem worse.

Has anyone experienced anything like this. My truck has just over 50,000 miles. Thanks.

You need to start by scanning the modules for codes.

There are no DTC's stored in the computer. I've read and been told that only the dealership or that type scanner can retrieve codes related to ABS or other non-DTC's. I was trying to see if any info was out there before I go pay the dealer or other shop.

You were told wrong about scan tools. Scanners with ABS capability are available to anyone and can be purchased at most parts stores. Intermittent problems such as yours have too many possible causes for me to throw out blind guesses.
