Default Magnaflow or Solo Muffler....HELP!

Just got back from the shop and I have a guy telling me I should consider a Solo Muffler instead of the Maganflow as it sounds way better (deeper rumble) and every client has been ecstatic about the Solo. Even went as far to say that the guys in his own shop want to get the Solo installed.

BIG question...which way do I go? I have heard of a few issues with drones and the Magnaflows (and I won't go to Flowmaster...too loud for an old dog like me!) and I have relatively nothing about Solo.

I plan on making my final decision this weekend...all thoughts and feedback welcome.

PS - at the same time I will be getting K&N intake installed. My Diamondback aluminum tonneau cover is due this weekend too. I will upload pics of everything once it is all complete. I am as excited as a kid at Christmas!!! Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait...only 6 more sleeps.....

I also wanted to know if anyone else had installed the Solo. I hear the gains are the same and its louder than stock but not TO loud. Mach 44 was what was recommended.

dont know anything about solo however i have the mufflex 14" on my 2010 bighorn. its just a 14" magnaflow muffler with some extra pipe on it and its a direct fit replacement for the 09-10 rams with factory duals and mine sounds GREAT. its deep and loud enought but i can still roll the windows down and not blow the kids ears out in the back. I am very happy with it and it was only about $250 and took me 15 minutes to install it. hope this helps.

Same thing happened to me. I went to a local shop in hopes of getting a 14" Magnaflow. Well it seems almost every shop around here doesn't carry Magna's. Even had a few shops try talking me into getting an "X-elerator". Ended up getting Flow's. I like it alot, not as loud as everyone says.

the shops are probably making more profit off the "other" brands...but I'm just guessing.

Yea, I think I would tend to agree about the extra profit. My guess is also that Magnaflow and Flowmaster probably don't leave a lot of room for profit to dealers on the part itself because everyone and their cousin carries them and prices need to be competitive. Profit is off the install.

I have the 24" magnaflow and love it. Nice deep rumble when you feed it and very quiet at idle. No drone on the hwy either.

I had the same dilemma with my truck. My local shop would install whatever i wanted, but added that people with Flowmaster and Magnaflow had came back with complaints about the sound when the motor goes into 4 cyl. mode and no complaints from customers that got the Solo Mach. I went with the Solo and I like it. I haven't heard the others to compare. I also have the Mopar CAI and it sounds good when I give it some gas and it's a little louder than stock. I have no drone. My RoadRunner has Flowmaster 40's and I can't stand the drone any more. I'm thinking of going with the Solo Storm on that when I redo the exhaust.

I just replaced the factory muffler with a magnaflow (left the resonators) and it sounds a lot better (nice rumble at idle and smooth tone when I step on it). Flowmaster is just more aggressive rumble due to the design, I have never heard of the Solo muffler. I would youtube both and or all and see which on you like. I like mine smooth sounding so I went with magnaflow. To each his own so listen to video clips of other peoples and figure out what you want. DO NOT let anyone talk you into anything, cuz you more than likely wont be happy
