Exclamation help newbe here 318 to 360 swap

im wonting to drop a 360 mag in my 98 ram and was wondering whitch way to go its a 4x4 so im deff lookin for torq im wonting some thing more than just stock would like to drop the 408 in her but cant afford that my buddget is about 3,000 bucks what is a good way to start this project all input welcome thanks for help

Just a thought here but unless there is something wrong with your 318, I would use the $3000 for upgrades instead of an engine swap.

If you install the 5.9 in place of a 5.2 make sure you change the torque convertor also . The 5.9's convertor is externally balanced where as the 5.2 isn't .

the 318 has a rod knocking im think im going to drop a 360 in her found a used one with 44k on it so im going to go that route drop a mild cam in her and some headers and call it good i guess unless i can just pick up a long block and my intake and throttle body and distributer will work would be more my taste than used i know i have to change oil pan but my bigest concern is the puter tottley lost on that subject do i need to flash it for the cam and headers or ??????? what , will my puter i have now work r do i need a 360 puter and have it flased for the up grades thanks for all the help guys

Sorry I don't have the answers about your computer but if it were me I would probably get an SCT tuner and have a custom tune made based on dyno runs once you get the engine put toghether.

I am too new to this stuff to be giving cam recommendations but a call to your local speed shop will give you that answer. I know when I was upgrading my mustang I got an SCT tuner for it and the shop set up a basic performance tune for me at no additional charge but to have them truly custom tune it I had to pay for dyno runs and that probably varies by shop.

Make sure you reseal the plate on the bottom side of the intake also before you reassemble it . Yes your computer will work on the 5.9 . It is advisable to have it reflashed to the 5.9 specs .
