As for towing... Think it through. Will this be a occasional towing of this weight? Will it need to perform this daily?

It will do it but you have to remember getting it to go is only half the problem. You also need to get it to stop. You can't tow that much weight without trailer brakes on it. Can you... yes, but it's not safe so be sure to have them and the wiring to support it.

Also since it's a 1500, pay the $ for helper springs to be added to the rear. When you have the weight on the truck you can blow up the springs and raise the rear end, thus lowering the front end and placing weight back to the front tires which do more to control you in steering and breaking. I have the helper air bags on mine with a 2/4 drop and have still towed plenty with ease.

Have to chime in: Just pulled a loaded 7400lb travel trailer, dirt bike in the bed w/ fire wood and 10 gal gas (aprox. 7800 to 8000lbs total load) to Pismo beach. (BTW last truck f250 power stroke.) I even have the "dreaded" 3:55 gears. Um this truck is fantastic, I really do not know why everyone seems to be coming down on these gears. I also have 33" BFG AT tires and $80 air bags in the coil springs. I have been towing for 30 years w/ every kind of SUV, truck etc. and I can say this truck rocks, it will pass at will on all but the steepest grade I came upon, on the steepest grades, I don't know what the numbers are of the incline but if some one is familiar with the 101 to Pismo from SF valley, there are some good tests and I easily could hold 65 on them, I did not push further. Almost always seemed like there was more left if I wanted it. I averaged 9MPG which included a fair share of truck racing everywhere in the dunes w/ my girlfriend screaming next to me. Maybe you can do burnouts while towing w/ the 3:92 or something but I am never easy on anything and use all my vehicles to the fullest of their abilities, (50 LBS of Pismo sand in my new $42,000 to prove it). Anyway, real world trip, w/ honest 1st hand experience coming from a non brand specific consumer. I pick the best truck for me at the time and use the heck out of it. Compared to the HD f250, the HD trucks are more stable and the diesel has a special kind of power unique to them but, man no issues w/ control and plenty of power everywhere, especially over 3500 RPM when passing or on steep grades. Installed the factory trailer break and it worked perfect. I am sure the 3:92 ratio is better but no prob w/ 3:55 at all and empty I get 20 MPG flat hwy, I'll take it! I shopped all the trucks and like this 2010 the best. Hope that helps, good luck!

Hobbsdodge, You answered the real world q's and good to see you have the air bags and trailer brakes. That's the part I thought everyone would miss seeing and I think is most important.
