Default CAI Ram Air Scoop

Hello Everyone,

I am looking at buying the Volant CAI with the Ram Air Scoop. I understand that the scoop sits in the fog light opening. Is it possible to install this scoop, keep it functional, and still leave the light in the mount?

If you left the fog light in the hole then there would be no way to get air into the ram air tube. Two objects (open space for the air inlet to the CAI and the fog light) cannot occupy the same space.

I didn't write the laws of physics, I just have to live by them!

See if there's another spot you can fit the scoop into so that it can get air.

I get the whole "need room for air to move thing", Hence my question. Thanks for the great response though. I appreciate the obvious being pointed out.

Maybe you can cut a hole in the inner fender in front of the tire that you can get air from. Just a thought.

I was just joking Ted. Didn't mean to offend.

Try a different route with some small flexible tubing, like some flex hose used on a dryer outlet.

OK, so I got a response from Volant on this... Seems ridiculous if you ask me, but see for yourself:

Q: I am looking at purchasing a Volant CAI for my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 w/ 5.7L HEMI. I am also looking at getting the Ram Air Scoop that goes with it. My concern is that I do have fog lamps on my truck and I have no desire to remove them. I have been told that in order to install the Ram Air Scoop, I will need to remove the fog lamp. Is there another way to mount this or possibly even a scoop with a different design?

A: Currently the only options are to custom mount the scoop to the side, relocate the fog lamps or remove them

Q: Thanks for the quick response. I am not sure what you mean by mounting the scoop to the side. Would it be something where I need to cut a hole?

A: You don’t need to cut a hole, some people set the scoop to the side of the lamp to pull in air from a lower location

Q: So, just to make sure I understand… The scoop opening would still face the inside of the engine compartment, but pull the air from a lower location?

A: It will face the inside of the bumper, not the motor

This kind of response and forethought makes me unsure I want to buy a Volant product. Any thoughts on this?

I think you are reading more into what they are saying than they are actually saying.

If you install the ram air scoop with it down in the area of where the fog lamps are, but not remove the lamps, you will get cold air into the scoop.

You would have to have it pretty far up in the engine compartment to get hot air from the engine.

Take a look around your front end and see if there's a slot where you can hang it and get good clean air.
