Default Transmission shifting issue

I just got this truck and I was aware of it having a problem with the tranny. However I am way new to Dodge tranny's. I have worked on and rebuilt an A4LD out of my Ford explorer so I know something about autos in general.

The deal is, is that the truck won't move from 2nd to 3rd without throwing it in neutral and back into drive. The fluid is pretty bad, so it needs a flush and a filter. I heard that replacing the tranny speed sensor is a possible fix. Before I got the truck it worked fine with no problems.

Have you checked to see if your throttle pressure cable at the trans is stuck in the wide open position ? That would make it wanna shift real late (High) .

Hmm, what does it look like? I really don't know my way around that tranny. I have seen a sort of linkage setup on the driver's side.

Same problem with my truck, three times to the garage, many items replaced, but was worst after the third time, so for the fourth time I have taken it to a trusted friend, and he has found the govenor sensor is the problem, well I'm hoping, will get the truck back sometime today, will keep you posted! (speed sensor was replaced, second time to garage)

Dang, the governor is inside the tranny. I hope I don't have to drop the valve body. Done that before in the middle of the night with the warm nasty smelling ATF rain pouring on my face as I work upside down. Ehh, well you gotta do what you gotta do. With only 126k on the drive train the tranny should last a while longer if its replaced.

pick up the truck and so far shifting like it is a new truck, so it did cost me $628 but if the problem is gone worth it, (oh yah and the $1000 for the other three visits to the other garage), very happy thank you Darryl, he said common problem with the Dodge Rams

Thanks for the heads up. Just waiting for another paycheck to hit the bank and I'm gonna drop the pan. Might as well do a write-up if anyone is interested.
