Default Hemi won't let loose off the line.

Shouldn't a HEMI be able to destroy the rear rubbers? Can't seem to get them to let loose when I try to even brake stand..... no problem towing anything, pulled a 91 Dakota out of some serious slop the other day and didn't even know he was still hooked up behind. Just had the tranny pan dropped and everything flushed, new filter everything. Plugs aren't more than 30K old and I am running BFGoodrich AT's on the stock 20's. No problems breaking it loose in the rain or on the dirt, but try to lay down some rubber on the asphalt and the brakes hold it back and it just drones...... Some help please?

I would have to believe it's all in the traction control . My 300 SRT8 does the same thing . But thats tied in with the ESP system too . Just when you want to have some fun .

There was a post earlier about this same subject. The answer given is the truck has a Torque Control Module that prevents this from happening.

Basically the idea being to prevent damage to things while starting from a standing stop thereby saving the manufacturer $$ in warranty repairs.

Makes total sense to me.

What year is your Ram? If it's an 03, your can bypass the TMS (Torque Management System)....if it's newer.....you can't.

I know it has the TMS, but I didn't think it would do this well of a job. And you are right, it delivers 50% of the fuel in the first 2 gears I believe. seems as soon as it hit 3800 it goes haywire - i was just looking for a second opinion as to why it's all sound and no go. And like you said - just when I wanted to have fun. We'll see about that.... thanks guys. On another note - what does a dirty or uncleaned TB do to fuel economy? and what does a spacer do? I am all new to this jargon so i apologize for being ignorant.

Dirty TB can lower hp and mpg. TB spacer is a fantastic way to waste money and a perfectly good chunk of aluminum.

Yup! TMS is very effective at saving your tires and other drivetrain parts. The unfortunate side affect is the reduction in adolecent fun that we all enjoy from time to time.

The reduction is not 50%.....but it sure feels like that. It is not a fuel based reduction but rather a power based reduction, so the amount of reduction decreases and the vehicle speed increases (harmful torque decreases). It is only in play in 1st gear.

A clean TB will net better mileage than a dirty one....along with better starting, idling, power, etc. A TB spacer will likely do nothing for you. I have yet to read a post where a TB spacer netted any positive results at all, so if you get one, make sure it looks real cool, so at least it's good as a conversation / bragging piece.

If you want to do something that will net results, get a tuner. The Diablo Sport Predator is very popular with the Hemi owners, and will deliver results even if you don't upgrade the intake or exhaust.

Side note - If you get aforementioned tuner, you can contact them for a custom tune. The custom tune can include alterations to the TMS if the risk of drivetrain damage and the ability to spend horrific amounts of money on tires is acceptable and/or appealing to you.

I can't say much more than has already been said, the TMS system just works TOO well for people that want to break them loose. The TB spacer is a colossal waste of money unless you're planning a nitrous system or have a carb, other than that it's a way to get a cheap supercharger sound.
