Default proper break in mileage

so I got my first oil change on wednesday at 5000km. I thought after that maybe I might start putting my foot into it a bit. I asked the service droid at the counter and he said 5k is way to early. told me the recommended break in period is 15 to 18000k! holy crap. I cant wait that long. not too sure how much I believe that. he also told me I could ad the oem trailer brake control and the oem remote start at home and drive it down the dealer to flash the computer. but then he said it would be an hour each to flash it. seems exessive?

15-18K on the original oil??? I would consult the owner's manual, it will tell you the recommended break in period/procedure and I'm sure Randy (RamTech) will have some good advice for you, though.

the manual only says no towing for the first 500 miles. at least that is all I could find.

You can install both of those at home BUT if you install the WIN module (where you put the key) at home you won't be able to drive it. With the remote start you can install the other parts but do the WIN module at the dealership.

It takes time to receive the new config file from Chrysler. Once received it's loaded into the Starscan tool and your truck will be updated. The new config file has the new options included so they will be covered under the warranty too as dealer installed options.

I personally believe in breaking them in the way you plan to drive it, but for longevitys sake, wait until after the first oil change and let her rip!

FYI- the dealer will not be able to update the build to include the trailer brake becaue Dodge just issued a bulletin stating not to add to the build- they will do it if you accept liability - I just went through this 2 weeks ago.

The owners manual states somewhere (can't remeber where) to perform some brisk accerlation during the breakin period but not to exceed 55 or 60 mph (I cannot remeber which). In other words do not completely baby it -

I took it easy on my truck for about 2,000 miles, then i drove it like i normally would, even engines shops will tell you after 500 miles you can go for it with most engines, i now have 31,000 miles on it.
believe it or not, somewhere around 23,000 miles, i started getting better mileage, but, that may have had something to do with a couple flashes that were done around that time

Give it hell and at your next oil change convert it over to a good quality synthetic .
