Default Upgrading muffler

Well I was going to do a SI/DO muffler, tailpipes etc on my 5.7, but every shop wants around $500 to do that, whereas they want $190 installed for a single... way I see it I can just do that myself and save the money on labor. My question is since the stock muffler is so massive, do I need to get another muffler the same size as whats on there? I think the answer is no... but i just want to be sure. Also, what can i do to freshen up the tips/tailpipe, as it looks sort of worn... I don't want the cheap clamped on tip look either.

TIA

Thanks for the link. Looked at that and not really a fan of it exiting in front of the wheel on one side, or the tips. The dual extreme looks very nice though... and good price. Is it really worth the ~$200 to get stainless over aluminized though? I'm thinking probably since its winter here 7/12 months

check out my thread for my magnaflow exhaust. I believe I spent around $100 and bolted it on myself.

i did my side exhaust with a super 44 all for about 200..stainless is dumb since no one ever looks under your truck. just get some stainless tips and paint the rest black with high temp paint like I did..check out my pics

I would go for it . The factory pipe is stainless steel and should already be mandrel bent .
