Default Intercooler

1998.5 Dodge 3500 4x4 Diesel

Will installing a after market intercooler make much difference in the EGT temp with a stock turbo? I use my truck for towing 18,000 lb toy hauler. Thanks in advance for you thoughts on this. If the answer is yes, is there a better after market intercooler?

Depends on how the material specs and capacity compare. If there is more capacity, it will run cooler. Most are made of aluminum but if one is steel vs. aluminum, it will take longer to cool down.

Check with Banks Engineering. They make good stuff that works!

EGTs are determined by air/fuel ratio more so. I don't doubt it would lower it...but, adding more fuel would lower it even more...to a point. Don't make it over rich either, because then it will have raw fuel in the exhaust and it will ignite in the turbo which will thus cause high EGTs.

Then again, I'm speaking in terms of gas motors...diesels...for all I know they could be the absolute opposite.
