Anyone have a Volant? My buddy had one on his 2006 4.7 and it seemed like the best "Cold Air" design. They are expensive though.

IMHO the volant is literally the same exact thing as your stock air box, same location, materials, and angles. Granted it uses a "smooth" collection tube to the TB but still, nothing noticeably different than the stocker. If i were you i wouldnt get an enclosed one because the plastic does nothing but radiate even more heat and hot air into the system. less is more is my moto, which is why im waiting on the BFI, which is what i suggest to you once the first batch of them ships, which is what I, and about 20 others are waiting on. go check out the main BFI composite thread.

Im gonna have to disagree with you on that one
no offense bro
I have a gen 4 and have been fooling around/upgrading my oem box.. I just have a very hard time convincing myself that its performing as well as an aftermarket box LOL Granted its a good design but personally I dont think its in the same league IMHO.
Ive took the liberty of borrowing some pics from our members (thanks) for comparison. Just visually you can see how much more volume could be had with aftermarket. I upgraded my tube and dropped in a K&N... The Air Raid was my first choice but the tube seems collapsed..the Volant is a monster, and K&N seems to fall in between, cant find a decent pic for comparison..maybe someone can post one up of the K&N CAI. As for the BFI, I probably wont have this work truck anymore by the time that one gets released but hopefully into the next gen. R/T

What advantages are there with the K&N drop in filter VS the stock one?

well you can't convince everybody i guess, haha. but if you must know, the fastest 1/4 mile time in a stock quadcab hemi ram has been with a vararam intake. the second quickest behind it is the ramhammer (BFI's predecessor). everything else falls underneath and is why i am waiting on the BFI. so there's gotta be something to this idea.
regardless, let us all know what you get and your results. good luck with whatever you do.
