Here is some photos I found of going chrome to painted. the truck can't be seen in the post your lights post. I believe sanding/grinding and etching primer were used for this job.

I bought the same white grille..it was that easy right. I think there was like 6 screws holding down the radiator skirt, then 4 srews that hold in the grille..then what? just pulling it out? is it held in with tabs."

mine was converted by the body shop after an accident. they said it was not a straight forward swap. the two bumpers use different brackets due to the chrome not needing as much support. as for the grill I painted it my self to match. lots of sanding to really scuff the chrome the a good adhesion promoter then paint and clear. I am interested in doing the rear still though.

right after i picked it up from the body shop

sanded

What type of paint did you use to paint your grille? What grit sand paper did you use on the chrome grille?

I know this is old but this is a very expensive swap to buy all new parts. Well over $1,000. All the bumper brackets, absorber, etc have to be swapped. I luckily found a guy local that had the same color truck and wanted a chrome bumper. We met up and did the swap straight up no charge. Took a couple hours. I did have to buy fog light switch, fog lights, fog light harness, and have the computer programmed at the dealer since I originally didn't have fogs. The other guy already had a painted metal bumper, he just needed my brackets, absorber, etc.

All in all I spent a couple hundred bucks for the swap and I got really lucky. I left my grill chrome, and my rear bumper chrome. I like it that way with the white.
