Default towing issues with 4.7

Just got back from a camping trip to wisconsin ,first long trip towing the camper ,not very impressed with how the truck performed ,alot of down shifting on small inclines i guess the 4.7 isnt cut out for towing 4500 lbs .Anyone have any pointers of making this any better ? without buying anew truck or dropping in a hemi

An intake, exhaust and programmer will help but do you have a Tow/Haul option on your transmission? If so, did you use it?

While towing with my HEMI I had the same problem until I put it in Tow/Haul mode.

Just a clarification. If the Tow/haul light is on, you are in tow/haul mode. If it is not on, you are in overdrive.

push tow haul once its in tow/haul mode push it twice overdrive off i think there is a difference because the truck shifts different in all 3 modes ,overdrive ,tow/haul and overdrive off. rpms are higher in ovd off than in t/h mode

The first time I towed a trailer with my 4.7 had the same thing as you going on, lots of shifting and was not impressed. I did some checking around and made some changes. First thing I did was change the rear end ratio from 3.55 to 3.92, then put on a new CAI system by K&N had the exhaust worked on and got my self a superchip. The difference is totally awesome, less shifting, better mileage, and overall just exceptional performance.

I have now graduated from a TT to a 5th Wheel and really like the ride change not as much bounce as I had before on ruff roads.
