Default paint defects

I was waxing my truck this morning and found some large areas that look like they weren't sprayed properly from the factory. The entire roof and at least two spots on side panels are like this- it almost looks like they are speckled with a black/grey color. Is this covered by warranty?

Yes, I do believe it is covered by warranty. Most of the time, I have gone into the dealership where I bought the vehicle and spoke to the sales person/mgr and let them handle it. Best of luck and keep us posted!

do I have to take it back to the specific dealer I bought it from or will any take care of it? I Live a few hours away from where I actually got it. I only have 2,000 miles on the truck btw.

For warranty work, you can go to ANY authorized Dodge dealer.

awesome, thanks. I've read a lot of posts on here with similar problems, mostly peeling paint. This is obviously falls under the bad craftsmanship portion of the warranty but I guess I'm just looking for that extra vote of confidence, haha.

I believe certain paint defects CAN BE covered up to 5 years, but check your warranty booklet or disk to be sure. Also, save yourself the trip and call your salesman or service dept first. I say service because most dealerships no longer have their own body shop. Best of luck and keep us posted as others members might get some of their questions answered with your experience. Thanks!

I just got back from the dealership, they're only 5 minutes down the road luckily. Service was closed today but the salesman there told me that they would take care of it, no problem, just to bring it back in the am when service is open. They damn well better that's a 38,000 dollar truck!

That's great, glad to hear they're gonna take care of it!

.

In 1993 I bought a new Cadillac Sedan deVille. Three months later I noticed that the
paint on the roof, trunk lid and hood were a slightly different shade of paint, and not
as shiny as the rest of the car. So I called the owner of the Cadillac dealership and
asked him what happened to this car. He said "I don't remember". I got an estimate
from a trusted body shop of $2200. to repaint those areas properly, and asked the
Cadillac dealer to send me a check for $2200. He said okay. I didn't have it
refinished though. I just cashed the check.

The reason I would rather have the money to repair minor paint flaws than to have those areas resprayed is that there is too much of a chance that an ordinary body shop will make it worse. If you go to trade it in, an appraiser will usually be able to tell if it has had paint work done, and that is not a plus.
