Default 5.9l gas won't rev

I have a 5.9l gas that won't rev above 1000rpm. It idles at about 500 rpm and once the rpm reaches 1000 it starts to sputter and miss. This is a 5.9l with a 95 ecm. Automatic. The only code it is thowing is an AC code. There is no AC. The fuel pressure is good (45 psi)

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have the answer, but more thinking out loud. It is my understanding that the ECM is capable of limiting the engine RPM when it neutral, and this value can be programmed to any value....so.....if this ECM equipped engine has been swapped into a 72 Dart, is it possible there is no connection to let the ECM know when it's in gear ? If it has been in the car for awhile running OK, and this developed recently, is there a neutral switch issue...wiring....was it bypassed and the wiring for the bypass failed ??

LOL....you came looking for answers, and you got questions!

The fuel pressure is good @ 45 psi. The neutral switch is hooked up.

I am using a custom wiring harness/fuse relay/terminal system from the Detail Zone (Ron Francis Wiring) and have spent considerable time debugging and verifying the system with the manufacturer.

A little more info, if I disconnect the IAC nothing happens I have checked voltages and resistance per the manual. I have checked the TPS and every thing checks out.

Given its a newer model motor in an older car, I'm going to ignore the age of the car.

1. Is the TB clean?
2. Is the TPS clean?
3. Vacuum leaks?
4. While fuel pressure is good as you said, does it stay that way regardless of throttle position? ie does it drop off?

I'm liking the MAP sensor or crank sensor for a problem like this.

Fuel pressure stays constant, will bump it to 50 psi though. Will thoroughly clean the TB. I will also do some testing of the MAP sensor. There is a code I do get though it has to do with the torque converter lockup. I don't have a locking torque converter as the tranny is from a 92 Dakota.

Fuel pressure remains constant, I bumped it to 50 psi also. Quick check of the MAP sensor indicated it is OK. (pulled connector and the engine stalled.)

I have only mention it is in a Dart to indicate this is a non standard instal. The best people to talk to about my engine problems are DODGE RAM guys!!

Thanx every one for all you help so far.

Ralph

Unplugging the MAP really isn't the best way to check one. You really need a lab scope and a vacuum gauge or you can try replacing it with a known good part (not necessarily a new one).
