I saw that and it looks fantastic, but there is very little room to run ducking from the bottom of the air box to to the grill area. Between the inner fender and the frame is (just above the upper control arm) is really tight. I can't see how you'd run round tube ducting on a '07 to get to the grill without cutting the inner fender. I ended up using this rain gutter drain from the link below. What's shown is actually 2 pieces, I used the flat section. It necks to a 4'' offset. (didn't use any of the flex section) I cut the whole assembly to a total length of 17 to 18'' and used a heat gun to mold the ducting where it comes into the air box so it cleared the inner fender and allowed the air box to to rest on the posts without binding. The rectangular ducting fits perfectly between the inner fender and the frame

Bumping this up as the question of some variant using the K&N drop-in comes up frequently. Might be a good sticky.

well I started my intake mod today,it seems to be coming together, but when I was using the pl adhesive I discovered that it was old or had frozen and didn't set up so I have to redo the adhesive.minor set back will finish tomorrow and post some picks.I had to take the kids to mcdonalds so I installed the filter box and left the inner fender well and the air boot off, found it was a little more responsive and a little louder, with stock filter still.cost of the mod FREE only time as I am in the ventilation trade parts are available.

Free is always good. This is allot cheaper than a CAI.

A few months ago I called AirAid about getting a MIP (Modular Intake Pipe) for the 4th gen to replace the stock pipe between the airbox and throttle body. They said they don't sell them separately from their CAI kit becuase the stock pipe flows as well as their MIP does and they wouldn't feel right about selling a product when there is no gain over the stock part.

That's when I had the idea of putting an additional air intake source to the airbox. The more more air the better plus it's a colder source of air for the airbox.

wow great thread. I started a project two days ago, not knowing about this thread until right now. But i am def. using the ideas here to perfect my cold air ram intake. I had planned on using an adapter like this \/ over the stock hole,

then run the ducting down to my fiber glass ram air scoop
i started off with the lower valance

removed the middle, leaving the outer edge for mounting it back to stock mounts later

then i had to cut out the 4 small plastic braces in the opening(already cut out here)

then mocked up the scoop out of tape and card board

then i started laying fiber glass inside the scoop and after it dried i removed most of the card board and tape and finished laying fiber glass on the outside total of 3 layers.

this is a test fit i still have to sand just a bit to get ride of the rough edges the probably just paint it with plasti dip, then i have to decide how to attach some kind of wire mesh or fab up a lower grill to match the stock chrome horizontal grill inserts.

this is the view from underneith. I had to notch one of the braces for better clearance.

might be a bit of over kill, but i hope the larger scoop will add to the ram air effect at speed.

Dude!...that is some pretty neat extensive work there. If it performs properly, you should have a cool ram air system indeed.

Ok so here it is air intake mod complete put a K&n drop in filter, took it for a rip with a lead foot , sounds a little throatier and a little more responsive I think. For the short little trip I took I gained 3/10ths of km (fuel economy). So here are some pics of the project

Ramfd nice work, how are you going to finish off the grill? black rigid screen would look good or perf. sheet metal, also is that 3" pipe you are using? If you are 4" chimney liner fits perfectly over the flanged ABS elbows and it is perfect for forming bends as well as being rigid, will hold it's shape, light weight as it is aluminum.
