If you don't want to use parts from Lowe's and such, check out Spectre brand components( available at o'Reiley's auto Parts). They have everything you need to do this mod super clean and look great. I got all my parts from an older project. The next few days mine is going in, I will do pics. I aqlready have a the Green Performance drop in air filter, so hopefully this will give her all she can take.

Default Cooler air!

Greetings! I have followed this thread for some time and finally "bit the bullet." We don't have Lowes or Home Depot close by, but Menards had everything I needed.

I carefully marked where I could cut the 3+" hole. Not having a hole saw, I drilled 1/8" holes around the circumference and then used my Dremel tool to finish off the opening. I cut the top inch off the collar of the street elbow with my hack saw and smoothed the edges with sandpaper.

Originally I was going to epoxy the street elbow, but noticed that when using the Dremel tool that the air box material would virtually melt from the friction. Instead of using epoxy, I used an old soldering gun to melt pieces of the cutout from the air box to form a bond between the street elbow and the air box. When the airbox material was molten, I could press it into the gaps using an old kitchen knife. It was almost like frosting a cake and the street elbow is locked in place. I even checked after I was done and it is water-tight too.

I hit the street elbow with a couple coats of flat black before reinstalling the air box. The solid drain pipe is an accordion that is about 2.5' before you pull it out. I attached it to the street elbow and ran it down against the inner fender well and routed it just behind the front fascia. I know pix would be helpful, but I currently don't have any way to post.

The total, not counting the paint, was less than $10. For the past three weeks I have been comparing my IAT against the ambient temperature. At highway speeds, the IAT would be between 14 and 17 higher than air temperature. Since doing this mod, the difference between IAT and ambient air temperature runs from 5 to 9 degrees. I took it out to show my "service guy" at the dealership and he was impressed.

Thanks to all for inspiring this mod!

I read this front to back and back to front a couple times and decided to do this mod as well, even though i have an AFE stage 2 CAI (really its warm air, but cold air now!)

I used a 4" dryer vent for the tubing, a 4" drain inside the box and a 4-5" rubber coupler for the intake portion.

I like the way you added the screen on the lower valance. What did you use. Did u just dremel it out? I'm curious that's how I'm wanting to do mine.

Thanks!

Yeah i used dremel, the shape for the hole was kind of already there, i just had to cut it out. As for the screen, i just went to canadian tire (hardware store with auto parts) and bought some customizing meshing.

I cut a piece out with about an extra inch all around and bent and shaped it until it fit in the hole. I bent the extra around the back, glued it with JB weld and cut the excess with the dremel once it was dry. A couple coats of plasti dip and it was good to go!
