I bought a 3" hole saw from Lowes. Like you mentioned I drilled a pilot hole on the inside so that there was enough room for the drain flange not to hit the sides of the airbox then drilled from the outside of the airbox.

HA HA! Not sure if I have 3" hole saw (I know I have a door kit though). I saw several hole saws @ Lowe's yesterday though for under $30.

Let me know if you have trouble and I'll do my best to help. After the saw, all you'll need for this one is a screw driver and a drill (maybe some sandpaper to smooth out the hole after you cut it).

Be sure and post pics of the final product too!!!

I did this CAI mod on mine this afternoon. Except for the bottom of the hose being zip tied to the frame I am happy with it. I am looking into doing a plate on the bottom of the passenger side like that Diesel setup had a few pages back.
Everything else is pretty much what the OP had done and it rocks out at $20 so far total. Ol' Thunderbolt got a little more pep in his step now. Thanks JMR!

I like that idea.

Instead of going though the grille just scoop it from below the bumper in clean air.

Do you guys think rain or water can make its way up to the air box??

I see rain coming into the stock opening before it does the modded one. There is almost 2 feet of hose to go up before it hits the air box. I noticed that there was a 1/8 drain hole in mine at the lowest point so I would assume all would be well... unless we are treading 2ft deep water.

Hey Hedghawg...I'm not identifying that exact spot you used for the inlet. I notice you have an '11 Express. I have a '12 Express, and I'm not seeing that exact configuration on mine. I thought the models would be relatively the same. Could you clarify?

I left the stock opening there on the front and drilled a hole into the bottom just like the OP had done. More cold air the better. On the fromt outside of the air box there is a square elbow tube coming off of it going into the fire wall and it has a foam seal where it makes contact. If you look to the right side of the pic you can see that I have done. Basically it will be on the bottom front right side if you are looking into the air box from outside the truck. the side away from the grommet mounts
