It would definitely be a good idea if Dodge gets the 6.1L motor into the Rams as an option. If the other guys are bringing out bigger and badder motors Dodge should wake up! I know if I was buying a truck I would go for the bigger motor, so Dodge is falling behind in my eyes. The 5.7L Hemi in the new Rams is still a bad ass motor. It does put out a lot of power but I think they need to bring the 6.1 out now to shut Ford up haha

Lets not discount Randy's insight on the 6.1. As he stated, it is more of a high RPM engine than a high torque at low RPM design that is almost required in a heavy vehicle like a truck.

I was particularly intrigued by his comment on the 6.4. Not planned for the Ram.....at least in it current configuration. Hmmmmm. I don't know the specs on the 6.4, but I'm willing bet if has the stroke.....it'll make the torque!

True brad I would not be surprised to see a slightly different 6.4 engine made for trucks. B/c Randy is 100% right about the high rpm power output not going well w/ a truck application. The ford 6.2 is even an option in the f150 making Ram fall behind in two fields gas 1500s and gas 2500s :/ Im not about to jump ship but I wont buy a new Ram until we see smaller diesels in 1500s or the new Dakota or larger gassers

Dodge could put the 6.1 in the Ram lineup if they wanted to. The new Mustang 5.0 was designed for the car but with a different cam profile and revised tune it shifts the power/toque band for trucks and now it's going in the F-series. It would be nice to see Dodge do the same with the 6.1.

realize the 6.1 is dead.... it wont be an option fro an Dodge vehicle the 6.4 is replacing it..... the RAM wont get the 6.4.....right just like the viper is not coming back, like said earlier give it a year or 2. and why worry about the 5.0 in the f150s? anyone have the numbers on the truck version?? it may not be all its cracked up to be its still a furd they still cant make power w/o forced induction

Myself? I'd be interested in a twin turbo Pentastar 6.
I've driven both the eco-boost and the new 5.0 in the 2011 F-150's, and the Eco is quicker,,, Better MPG with higher HP and TQ,,,

Did a little lookin on the ford website,,, http://www.fordvehicles.com/trucks/f150/

Don't need to over-state the obvious, but the Eco puts out A LOT of TQ down low, more than just about any other 'produced for the general masses' OEM V-8 does at 2500 rpm,

Another interesting bit of info,,,, Read up on the new 5.0 in the Mustangs,,, They are only rated at 412 HP, but folks are getting 375+ RWHP straight off the showroom floor,,,,

This means one of 2 things,,,, Either Ford has the most efficient drivetrain on the planet, or the 5.0 is putting out significantly more than to 412 HP,,,
