Default 4.7 Throttle Position Sensor

Is it a common issue for the TPS on these engines to go out? I know that it's somewhat common because I've other people talking about it but is there a reason why it's happening? Mine is messing up again and I need to replace it... this will be my 4th one!

I replaced it once because it was down shifting really hard at slow speeds (TPS #2), once because it wouldn't start and would run very poorly if it did start (TPS #3). Replacing the TPS fixed the issue both times. Now it is back to hard down shifting again (soon to be TPS #4).

Any thoughts or advice that I've missed?

140K miles and counting and I haven't had to replace one yet. I haven't heard of any issues and I don't think it's a common issue. But, with that said, something keeps messing with your TPS and you need to find out what it is.

I replaced mine at about 70K for very erratic shifting (like it was hunting for some non-existent gear, up/down while trying to drive). So far so good 84K now. Maybe it's the TPS you're buying. Are all of them the same manufacturer?

I agree with Roger-- look deeper for the issue. LEW also poses a good point! Some after markets don't get along with some trucks.
For example, many people have no luck with oil sending units that aren't OE with the third Gen.

I'm not saying that this really is your issue but it's something to look into. I've replaced my TPS as well-- it was revving itself when a bump was hit and then it pretty much stopped going over 55 (mind you there was also a misfire due to a rocker arm that'd popped off). The work was done with OE parts.

Are there any other issues? Codes?
Maintenance done regularly?
