My 2010 has the normal hemi tick also. However, I have on occasion, (3 times in 7500 miles) started my truck to a very loud and very pronounced clatter from my engine. The noise last roughly 2-3 seconds which I must say feels like an eternity. I'm guessing it's a lifter that has bled down but when it happens it scares the poop out of me. It's my understanding that replacing the lifters on a Hemi requires pulling the heads off the engine so I'll deal with the noise unless it gets worse. This is my first Hemi and I'll say this. The Hemi goes like a raped ape but it sure makes a lot of noise doing it.

I do not have any clatter but have had the tick several times. I am just over 5k miles. I am going to have oil changed friday afternoon. I am going to full synthetic. Mobil 1. some of the folks have said that the full synthetic knocks the tick down.

I`ve owned several hemi`s, never a tick in any of them until now. The new 2010 hemi ram sport i just bought, had the tick on cold starts. Did the first oil change at 1,000 miles with mobil 1 (5w20 synthetic) and never had the tick happen again. I`m now at 9,000 miles, (and 3 oil changes later) smooth as glass and still no tick has returned yet. I also use the factory mopar oil filters too. Dunno, some guys are lucky, some aren`t.

My cousins hemi charger ticked real bad on cold starts... turns out that the pushrods were ALL out of spec length (worn down and shorter) and it wiped out the rockers as well.

This will be my 2nd oil change. I removed factory oil at about 1500 miles. Did not go to Mobil 1 then but I am now.

I'm on Hemi #3, and like it's cousins before, it ticks. That's what they do when they're bored. Take it out on the road and let it loose....no tick....just Roar!

Seriously, they all ticked...and all of them had the odd morning start up where it sounds like you forgot something...like oil! It only lasts 1-2 seconds (feels like minutes), but I have been assured by technicians and engineers alike that this is nothing to worry about....so I don't, and my Hemi's have never let me down. I have also noticed that the odd time after sitting for a long time, that they will belch out a respectable blue cloud at start up. I have noticed this on every one, but only after I rode it hard and put it away wet during hot weather.

Just my experiences.....FWIW.

When you say "all of them had odd morning start up" are you describing my condition where on occasion upon start up the engine makes more racket than normal. Roughly 3 times in 7500 miles I've started the truck and it made a horrendous clatter for about two seconds. This noise is above and beyond the typical Hemi tick upon start up. If others have had what I'm descibing it will make me feel better. I really don't want to have my dealer tearing apart my engine if this is a semi-common condition.
