Default Back-Up Camera Question

I have purchased a bumper mounted rear view back up camera for my 2009 Ram Laramie and was wondering how difficult it will be to install? Where do you run the wire under the truck and is this something that should be handled by a audio dealer or is it not that hard to do? How long will it take?

I just finished installing a backup camera, but installed mine into the tailgate handle. To be honest, it really wasnt that dificult at all. I just routed a video cable from the back of the truck, following along the tail light wiring, up to the driver side and made a hole (then sealed it) so i can finish the connectiona at my headunit. I made a ground on one of the bolts around the rear bumber, anywhere is fine as long as it a good clean connection. and the power was tapped from my trailer connector at it's center pin. took me a little over an hour total.

Thanks for the info, mine is supposed to come with 21' of wiring. I guess this this will be enough to take it from the bumper up to the radio. I will have to look under the truck to see where my wiring actually is run. I don't guess I have ever payed any attention to that.

I used LockPick and it was easy but I put a front and rear camera in so it twice as long. Best place to run wires into the truck is drill a hole in the clutch hole cover. I don't understand why it is bolted in with huge bolts since it is plastic, must be something to do with if you had a stick. Anyway the place to drill is plastic. I drilled twice half inch holes and ran all the wires to the Lockpick hooked everything up there. Hardest part is running the wiring from the back since my truck is oil sprayed, was a messy job, but saw they did a great job, so much room under there don't even need to lift it with a creeper, except passing the wires by the gas tank, needed longer arms or jack up the truck, tried stretching my arms but that was taking too long to we jacked it up. Lockpick makes the wiring idiot proof.

The only hard part of installing the lockpick, is taking the dash apart to get to the back of the head unit.....and that's not to difficult. Make sure you set the dip switches correctly. This is one time that triple checking will save you a lot of aggravation.

Does anybody know if the updates and flashes that the dealership may do affects the lockpicks functionality?

Only if they are doing a flash for the radio it might be possible but that is a good question for Coastal Tech. Let us know what they say. I didn't even buy mine there and they still answer questions, I did however buy from someone who was buying bulk from them. So far they have been excellent with support.
