Default wheel bearing and clunk!

well first of all, my uncle did my pas side wheel bearing, used a impact and was toast 2 months later. i redid it and torqued correctly, and i think it is bad again. havent lifted it to tell but i hear a slight grinding noise from that side. i dont want to do it a third time, any ideas why it went bad? its a 1998 dodge ram 1500 4x4. i go wheeling and just did a 3in lift all around. and the ball joints on that side are a little bad. i did the wheel bearing on driver side at the same time, and its still good. and when i turn sharp, i hear a clunck. not sure what it is, but my right shock is tottaly gone, maybe that? ive done so much work on this thing i want to try to get done! thanks!

The clunk you are hearing when you turn sharp is the cv joint on the front axle.

When you did the wheel bearing, did you replace the race and everything else you took off with new parts? I'm thinking things like grease seal, nut, etc.

Did you completely clean all the old grease from the hub? Then put in all new grease and pack the bearing really good?

He has a u-joint and a hub assembly . The wheel bearings are not serviceable pieces in this style setup . Normally these style hub assemblys will last in excess of 100,000 miles . I would check everything else first before condemning another bearing .

You can't just do the wheel bearings. I did the balls on my 4 x 4 and when I put it back together,I had the brake backing plate on wrong, so I had to tear it back apart. This time the bearings came out in two pieces. Not having ever owned a Dodge before, I just cleaned and greased them up and put them back in. An hour later, my Ram was on the back of a tow truck.
