Tough call. The 08 is newer and there may be some remaining warranty (I'd certainly ask about that) and from what you say, it may be in better condition.

If you still owe a bunch on the 05, you will still owe that money plus what the 08 costs ya so don't get too carried away to the point you are totally upside down on the 08. That could get expensive.

The rust is problematic. The o-ring is no big deal and the suspension jingle will take some time to find but neither issue sounds really serious.

It's gonna come down to the financial decision.

Well Friday its going in to get the oring causing the evap leaked fixed my service manager said his guys have been able to remove all the rust off w/ a solvent so hopefully it'll fool the honda care warranty inspector and I couldn't find anything that would cause the jingle so ill ask the service manager if the techs could look around the suspension for anything and today ime clean the throttle body (doing a search couldn't find a write for a 4.7 tb cleanin someone wanna give me a link if they can find one) i think ima stick w/ this truck and in nov when I get fire deptm stipends get it treated for rust thanks for th e help guys my truck only has 51k miles so hopefully after I get everything fixed up it won't be more probs and the mods can continue

Good call! Hard to trade off something you've not had for very long and lose all the money you have in repairs. It should be good to go for quite a while! From what i've heard to clean the throttlebody unhook it and use brake cleaner on it. They can get pretty dirty. When I changed the throttlebody out on my hemi for the fastman ported tb the stock one had a oily build up on the back of it from the vapors the egr puts back through the intake. If you are cleaning the tb you might also consider running a bottle of seafoam through the break booster vacum line. This will clean out the intake manifold as well as engine. Put in about 2/3 bottle and truck will idle real rough and probably die. If if doesn't die turn it off and let it soak 15-25 min. and restart your truck. It will smoke like a sob but that is all the crap that was built up in your engine. Run it untill it quits smoking and you are good to go. My truck is an '07 hemi with a around 56,500 on it and I did this treatment last week and my truck runs like new.

Well for those of you following my crap show. Today my service manager calls me and tells me to get to the dealer b/c the adjuster from my honda warranty shows up and my service manager convinces him to cover all the work (o ring, tank, fuel pump) but only the o ring at first. The warranty guy said that he would only pay for the o ring but if any problems would reoccur he would pay for the tank and pump, even though the Ram tech promised him that the o ring wouldnt be a long term solution w/o the tank...ugh. So it goes in friday to get the o ring and the ima ask them to look at the suspension noise, then wait for the evap leak to re occur than get a new tank I guess im thinking of selling it once its totally fixed and maybe getting another Ram or a cheap Dakota until I can afford a zero miles truck next year well see as long as its a Dodge

i would not sell it once its totally fixed just to buy another used truck. Who is to say the next truck wont have issues? If your going to dump all the money into fixing it, then keep it so atleast you can reap the benefits of all your time and money.

Trust me, ive been down that road

Point taken I just hope it proves to be reliable after I get it all fixed up. My dakota was bulletproof and my best friends 2nd gen made it to 280k miles I hope my truck can get up to speed so I can start modding it I have all these plans for mods lined up but I dont wanna do up something I can keep outta the shop and wouldnt trust off road lol well see

continue fixing it up, drive it & wait until the 2012 model comes out at least, there is going to be a whole new truck out by then & possibly a different set of smog rules

and hopefully a small cummins :] Im waiting to see if they really are putting the jeep jk pickup into production like pickuptrucks.com says I use my truck for 4wheeling more than I use the bed but I use the bed and towenough to warrant needing truck so that would be a nice comprimise
