Default Lift Kit Recommendation

I just bought a 96 Ram 1500 extended cab 4x4 short bed. It sits up nice however the springs seem to be very weak when loaded and the shocks are worn out. I am looking to change the springs and shocks and lift the truck about 4 inches for some larger tires. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Skyjacker and Superlift make good stuff. How much larger do you want to go with the tires?

I agree with Randy ^^^^ on those and also check out Rough Country.

One of the things to remember is to get a complete kit otherwise you will be chasing suspension geometry problems and maybe pinion angle issues depending on how high you go.

I definitely want to change the leaf's on the rear, some of the kits have an add a leaf. I am looking at staying with the 16 inch rims, may get some different ones and a 305/70/R16 tire. Not sure how the dimensions equate to 15 inch, I have only had 15 inch rims in the past. I also have an '84 Bronco II that I am rebuilding, it has 15 inch rims.

4" lifts and 6" lifts are very close in price so I would go with a 6" lift. I had a 6" fabtech on my z71 and it treated me pretty good.

Thanks for the advice, I will do some research on the Fabtech. I am trying to get my wife to let me put a lift on her WJ jeep. She isn't very interested

if you want a 4 inch that would look good but the 2nd generation dodges that are 4x4 already sit up pretty high. i put a 3" rough country suspension lift on my 99 sport 4x4 and it looks pretty big and i have some 295/75/16 BFGs on it right now and i could prolly go a little bigger on the tire size. and the 3" lift isnt to expensive you can get it for about $500 heres the link http://www.roughcountry.com/dodge_4wd_94-01_3.html

I agree they sit pretty high stock. I have 285x75x16's BFG MT on 16x8 Centerline Hellcats on mine with room to spare.

Fabtech "had" been having some financial issues. If you want a similar kit with springs check out BDS.
Both the Fabtech and BDS kits use a "psuedo long arm kit". IMO they ride much better than Rough country or similar systems that use the stock four link mount points. This is due to the high angle of the short arms. FTR I run Rough Country components with off road springs and in certain instances the ride can be pretty choppy.
The downside to BDS and others is that the truck will be permenently(sp) modified and welding will be required.
I am not a fan of Superlift...great lift for looks, but horrible off road. They simply converted a four link into a Ford link.
