Default What do y'all think of the Dodge Dart?

My current Toyota Corolla lease is up and I'm looking at a new commuter car. The corolla has been a fine commuter, but it's damn boring.

Also, I want to get a Manual transmission car with the intention of it eventually becoming my sons first car and I really want him to drive a stick shift because #1, I think it's still good to know #2, your attention has to be on driving when you have to shift #3, you cant text message and drive a stick

So I'm really considering the Dart Rallye. Any opinions or knowledge of the vehicle? Do you think this car is built well enough to last at least 10 years?

One of the FF I work with recently purchased one for his wife. He drove it to work a few weeks ago and I had a decent glance around while it was there.

First impressions are: I think it has a great sporty styling/appearence with EXCELLENT interior room. He's 6' 3" hovering around 255LB and says room is not an issue for him. Fit-n-finish appeared to be very good both inside and out. I was impressed with what I saw.

His wife's only gripe thus far is fuel economy is mediocre given the class and under passanger load it's a little underpowered. However, overall she is very content, he tells me.

I never drove it.

They ruined a classic muscle car and turned it into a tuner.

unless he decides to text and drive a manual....my buddy does it plenty..it scares the shit out of me. But ya, a guy pulled up to my house the other day in an old dodge dart and I was like..."that is what the new thing is supposed to be a re-creation of?" Now...that doesn't mean it won't be a good commuter car for you purposes or a good first car for your son. I'd go test drive one!

Thanks guys

Ya, It does give me the same feeling as when they turned the Chevy Impalla into a front wheel drive V-6 rental fleet car :P

last night I stopped by to check it out real quick. Aside from the legendary name they are trying to squeeze, if you look at it as it's own device, it is pretty good looking in/out!
I drove an automatic with the NA motor and it felt a bit under powered. I will have to drive the 6-speed Turbo to verify that it gains the peppiness it needs. Other than that, I think it will be a cool commuter and first car..

I hope it holds up well over the years though...... I've never been a Chrysler fan so Im still timid

I don't think the Dart was ever intended to be a muscle car back in the day, it just got Modded to fit. I do see what you're saying though...

Keep in mind there are three engine options for this car, so an opinion of the car being underpowered needs to be taken with a grain of salt. My first impression of the car is a good one and we haven't seen them back for any major repairs as of this writing. The car has roots in an Alfa-Romeo design, so it isn't entirely untested technology. Will it last ten years? I suppose that depends on how it's driven and maintained. If it's not abused and is taken care of, I can see this car easily going that amount of time.

I have'nt drivin one but they look like any other small car and probably has many bells and whistles which is what newer vehicles are coming out with these days. probably a good car

I was around when the 340 dart was laying rubber and I have to say I enjoyed driving it . If I were the head guy at Chrysler and someone said we have the new dart, after I looked at this little car I would have kicked his @#$%@ right out the door.

Leave those good old names alone unless you plan to show respect and give it some muscle

If they do go through with it and it's anything like the last generation of SRT-4 cars, it will be for sure.
