Default heater controls

HEY FOLKS,I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY HEATER/AC VENT CONTROLS ON MY 2003,2500 HEAVY DUTY. THE THING WILL NOT TRANSFER FROM DASH VENT TO FLOOR TO DEFROST.I CAN HEAR THE THING TRYING TO MOVE BUT IT WON'T SHIFT.HAS ANYONE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND CAN YOU TELL ME THE FIX FOR IT. THANKS

Yes, it's a common problem. The part that's failed is called the "HVAC Blend Door" and, of course, it's buried inside your dash. Unless you are mechanically inclined, it's probably best to seek out a dealer or an experience shop.

If you are mechanically inclined, get a factory service manual. I got mine off eBay on a CD in a .pdf format for $9 + shipping and let me tell ya, as many times as I have torn into my truck, I'm glad I had it.

This happened twice on my 06. First time warranty covered it then last winter on the coldest day it happened again. Dealer said $600.00 to fix it so I kept a pair of gloves over the defroster vents at times to route the heat to the floor. I traded to a 2012 in October and never mentioned it to the dealer. They will most likely fix it free for the guy who bought it if within 30 days. I hope they fixed this problem for 2012. Another reason I got the extended warranty. Good luck with removing the ENTIRE dash board!

No Mods Needed. Ordered it just the way I wanted it. Well, I did put a cabin filter in and de-badged the doors of the Ram 1500 things.
