Default Cold Air Intake systems?

Looking to replace the factory air intake in my 2010 ram 1500 slt. It's the 5.7L. Looking to increase the gas mileage and horsepower. Any suggestions on what would be adecent one to get? Something maybe I could do myself.

Welcome to the Z RamT03.
I have the AirAid CAI on my 2009 & realy like it. Nice & easy to install yourself & sounds nice to. Lot's to choose from out there,it's just personal choice at the end of the day.

I had some money burnin a hole in my pocket,,, Against better judgement, I got the Airaid for my 4th Gen.

Not sure why they put a 'rubber gasket' on the top of the box,,, it doesn't make any contact with the underside of the hood. About a 1-2 inch gap.

IAT readings went up in town compared to the OEM intake. Went up quite a bit according to the data-logging feature on my Cortex. About 20+ degrees hotter than OEM in stop and go,,, Maybe 2 degrees cooler when driving at highway speeds. Maybe,,,

More HP? eh, maybe,,, maybe not,,, It sure SOUNDS like it's faster!!!

More MPG??? eh, maybe,,, maybe not,,, but it sure SOUNDS like it's faster!!!

The Airaid has a pretty restrictive 'bottleneck' in the design,,, The pipe diameter at the airbox is the exact same as OEM.

The Airaid comes in 2 styles,,, one with the pipe and one without,,, There is no difference in the actual filter/box that comes with either kit. You can either hook up your OEM 'pipe' or the Airaid pipe to the same fitting on the airbox.

Kinda sucks when there is a big azz filter in a box with a 6 inch diameter velocity stack type filter mount that is choked down to OEM pipe size just outside of the box....

It does look good, fits well, and it's a sturdy set up. The 'pipe' follows the OEM pipes route, so it matches the indentation in the (4th Gen) engine cover.

It also does not occupy a lot of space as is the case with some of the other CAI's.

Buy it for looks, buy it for sound, buy it for 'sheets and grins',,, but,,,

Don't hold your breath for truly noticable, verifiable gains in HP or MPG.

As always, your mileage may vary! =)

K & N generally always makes nice products too bad they are overpriced. Maybe ebay has a knock off intake check it out.

I have only seen bad reviews of the K&N system. many guys are changing them out for an airaid. there is a great thread on here comparing the CAI's that you should check out. I just went and bought a K&N drop in air filter for now and seen a minimal increase in gas mileage, but a little better power. There are also some guys on here with the MOPAR CAI that you could PM and ask them for some info.

I have k&ncai and I love it. It was a great fit, great growl at take off, and better acceleration. Mpg has not increased due to me taking off hard to hear the growl.
