Default New Cummins V8 Winds Up In A Nissan?

Was watching an episode of Fast Lane Truck that featured the new Cummins V8 in the Nissan Titan XD. Couldn't help but wonder why Mopar didn't put that motor in the Ram 1500's. You would think with the long association between Dodge and Cummins it would have been a given.

I'm not knocking the V6 but hey they coulda had a V8!

Why would Fiat/Ram pay Cummins for their diesel motor? Fiat has been making fantastic diesels of their own in Europe for years. The 3.0 V6 EcoDiesel is a Fiat motor. Nissan is struggling in the truck segment. They grabbed up Cummins to try and save themselves.

VM Motori makes the V6 motor and yes they are partially owned by Fiat.
That said I think Dodge dropped the ball. I mean Dodge/Cummins is like peanut butter and jelly.

Its all about gas mileage, not power with the 1500 diesel. That's why its the ECOdiesel.

Exactly ^^

I read an article on why Ram didn't go with the V8 Cummins and this was exactly it. Ram wanted something that was as fuel efficient as possible; that was their main goal in putting a small diesel into a 1500 which is why the Ecodiesel was used. Nissans goal is to have a powerful diesel engine for towing. Ram already has that with the 6.7 Cummins (and far more than Nissan will ever tow I might add).

after owning two titans, one an 08 the other 2014,the engine IS NOT the issue with Nissan. Its the POS rear diffs they use.changing to a diesel IS NOT going to improve the titans towing if they still use their version of a dana 44.by the way that's why I traded in my 14 for the 15 2500.NISSAN YOU ARE DONE

The gents talking about fuel mileage are totally on point. The 6.7 handles massive tow/haul duties for RAM.

To be fair, Nissan is trying to position Titan XD as a "tweener" - in between a light duty and heavy duty.

I thought everyone had already heard this.

The reason the V8 Cummins isn't going into a Ram is because with the amount of power it puts out, the limiting factors would be the frame and other components when it comes to towing. It would be good in a 3/4 ton truck, but Nissan just wants to do a 5/8 ton instead like the HD F150s with the 7 lug hubs and stuff.

Ram wanted a capable half ton that would get good mileage, the engine Cummins produced did not meet the criteria Ram set forth so they went with the Motori and Cummins started shopping it around. There are also still rumors going around about Toyota getting the V8 Cummins but I have yet to see anything other than speculation on that.
