Default 20 inch to 17 inch wheels ????

Hello,
I need help and need to ask if I can put OEM 17" wheels on my 07 1500 4x4 ram that came with the thunder road package and 20" wheels.
I want to put a good winter tire on 17" wheels and save my 20" wheels just for the summer. (I live in the north east)
I figure there should be more of a selection and a better price for the 17" wheels and tires combo.
If this will work putting 17" on my truck, what size tire will match the original size in over all diameter? (275 60R 20)

Is there anything else I need to consider?

Thanks in advance.

If you get some from the same year you should be fine. Unless you're looking to buy new ones in which case, just take off a wheel and try the fit.

For winter wheels, salvage yards are your friend. In fact you may even get some with tires already on them.

You want to go from 20" to 17" rims? That can be done!! As long as the bolt pattern is the same it will fit. If you are going to go with winter tires then you should go thinner since that works better in the snow. Yea I think the 275/60/20 is the stock tire size.

I greatly appreciate all the input, but there must be someone out there that can tell me for sure that they have done what I want to do before I go out and buy four 17" wheels. I can't seem to find a 17" wheel to try on my 07 Ram. I even asked the local Dodge dealer parts dept and they said "gee, I am not sure, the part #'s are different".
I guess I could have figured out that myself. He was no help at all.
Also does anyone have any stock 17's for sale that will work?

Again, thanks to all.

I guess if I can't get a 100% answer on this question (and that's OK),
I would like to know what someone may recommend as to a good winter tire for the 20's that are on it now. I really don't want to get into a SUPER expensive tire if I have to go this route. I would like to keep the price under $200 each. Also where to buy them if that's possible.

I would think a standard 17" wheel would go on this truck because they say the 20's are the optional wheel and tire for the truck at tire dealers on the internet.

As long as the 17's are 5x5.5 with decent backspacing then you will be good to go. Check your local CL and surrounding areas for 17's. Check Ebay. Check the Ads here. Check the Ads on other dodge forums.

It will give you tire diameter and let you play with the numbers! Great tool for changing wheel size!

17" wheels will fit!
get a tire that is 295-70-17 or 285-70-17 your factory 20's are basically a 33" tire!
i would go with a 285-70-17 if using a oem wheel!
hope this helps!!!
