Default Loud Whomping Sound, i'm completely stumped. Any ideas???

Hey everyone, here is my problem. My truck is making a loud "whomp" sound (best I can describe it) whenever the front end is going over any kind of a bump big or small that has gotten worse and worse to the point where it is embarassing to drive around town because it makes so much noise. The sound can be made by rocking the truck from the drivers side (hopping on that side with the door open), but not from rocking the passenger side or the back. Here is the weird part, the sounds seems to be coming from the rear of the truck under the bed. I changed the rear shocks as they seemed worn out and it did absolutely nothing. The sound doesn't seem to be coming from the leaf springs or anything but it is also very hard to tell where exactly the sound is coming from as it echos so loud underneath the truck. I have lubed up all of the bushings on the suspension and I am just completely stumped. I am pretty sure the sound is coming from the back even though it only makes it when the front is bumped but I guess with the sound echoing I could possibly be wrong about this. Has anyone had this problem or have any ideas? The truck only has 25k miles and was my dream truck when I bought it and I am very disheartned now in already having problems so soon with this truck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The biggest thing you need right now is an extra pair of ears. Have someone rock the truck while you search for the noise.

I'd be looking under the front end. Lot of things under there could be making noise. Its really easy to hear what you think is the back end and have it be the front, especially when you're driving.

Put the front on jack stands for safety and crawl under it. Start trying to move things that shouldn't move.

We did this, rocking the truck with two people underneath and still couldn't come to a conclusion as to where the sound was coming from since it echoed so bad underneath. The sound was the loudest in the back but I suppose this could have been an echo, the fact that the front is what makes noise whenever it hits a drop off is why i'm not completely sure. We couldn't come to a conclusion as to where the sound was at so kind of hard to diagnose the problem.

So finally accepted defeat and just took it in. Blown front Strut, Tie Rod Ends were screwed up bad, which caused it to be out of allignment bad. So long $800 dollars. Anyone have any idea how this could happen on a truck with such low mileage? The truck only has 25k miles and of course 3 months out of warranty, a truck with this low of mileage should not be having problems like this already IMO.

Glad its fixed. I used to live in St Louis. That city has some of worst road maintenance in the county and so do the surrounding towns. It doesn't take much to eat a suspension/alignment up when it is constantly put through abuse.

Struts themselves can go out with little miles on them or with a lot of miles. Its really a matter of luck in a lot of ways. The things are dependent on rubber seals not being warn out. The sand and chemicals used on the roads in winter can do this readily.
