Default Buying a New Truck TODAY!!

My first post!!

After weeks and weeks of research and debate on my part (and lurking on these boards) I have finally made it to truck buying day. I'm going to the dealer tonight in Houston to pick her up!

I'm trading in my beloved (and well used) Black 2000 Ram 1500 V8 Magnum Regular Cab for a Black 2010 Ram 1500 Quad SLT Hemi Lonestar Package. I bought my current truck brand new in April of 2000 which makes it older than any of my three kids! It's going to be weird not seeing it in my driveway. But somehow I think seeing the new one will help me to forget and learn to love again.

I'm prepared with a quote for $10,000 off sticker, an Out The Door quote, a loan from my bank in case they try to screw me on the financing and a quote for the online extended warranty that they will have to match to get my warranty business. I'm a little nervous about what they'll give me for my trade in and wish I had gone to CarMax just to have a backup...but oh well, we'll see how it goes.

I'll report back on my buying experience if anyone is interested and pictures of the truck sitting in my driveway!

Would love any advise anybody can think of before I go. (sorry for the wall of text...I'm excited!)

Welcome to the Forum! And congrats in advance for the new truck! Post pics when you get it! If your dealer is anything like mine was then you will get a good deal on trade in. They paid $500 over bluebook for third party sale! Its the end of the year RAM event so keep in mind that they are trying to unload all of the 2010s. Stick to your guns!

Don't be too eager. Let them earn your business. Good Luck. I walked out the door $9,384.00 off the sticker.

Make them show you a complete invoice and see how much hold back they are getting. My dealer was getting 1800$ hold back and I made them give me 600$ of it to close the deal.

Also I could be wrong but dont you lose some of the incentives if you dont finance through GMAC in the beginning? This is what happened with my deal.

Yes, I would lose $1000 of the incentives if I don't finance through Ally. But I have a loan with a rate of 2.9% from my bank...so I've figured that losing the incentive saves money if they can't at least offer me 5%. This is the part I'm dreading. I hate that little room they put you in.

But snag #1....I can't get in touch with my loan officer. I don't even know if I'll have a check to take with me tonight.

UGH! Looks like I won't be getting a truck tonight. The guy I've been talking to at the dealership won't be able to be there and I don't want to switch to someone else at the last second...besides, the guy has been pretty patient with me.

On the plus side, maybe this will make me look even less eager.

The TORTURE!! Guess tomorrow is Truck Buying Day, not today.

The dealer should tell you this but if they don't you can and should buy the truck, finance through gmac then 3 months later refinance the truck through your bank. It will still be considered new. This way you get the interest rate and the incentives, just an idea ;-), good luck

When I bought my truck the dealer told me if I financed thru GMAC that it would take 1,000 off my truck and I could turn around that next month and change to a different finance company. I didn't need to finance, I withheld the amount I owned on my trade in until I got the numbers where I wanted them, then I told him it was paid off, lol. I got that kinda bug eyed look, . So I just wrote a check for the remaining balance and got the title in hand. But if I had needed to finance it, I would of went through GMAC and then changed to a lower loan that next month or changed it as soon as possible, next day if able to...

Hmmm...okay. I think I'm going the refinance route. Thanks guys!! That's going to make it much easier at the dealer.

Is the refinancing process pretty painless?

Welcome to the Z. On the extended warranty, make sure you get the Chrysler Maximum Care warranty. It is the best out there by a mile.

We have a lot of forums for all kinds of topics, so you shouldn't have any problems finding a place to post questions.

We LOVE pics of Rams.

Here's how to post them: http://www.ramforumz.com/forumdisplay.php?f=73
