Default Motor swap

Anybody know if the 4.7 HO out of the Dakota/Durango has the same tranny and motor mounts? I'm considering replacing the engine, and not only do they have a bit more power, they seem less expensive and more readily available.

Any comments?

From spending alot of time on a dakota-rango forum ive come to see the only difference between the old h.o 4.7s in the cherokees that was never available in the Rams or Dakotas were the heads and camshaft and a few guys over at dakota-durango.com have done this to their gen1 4.7s and where very happy about it http://www.wjjeeps.com/ho_engine.htm that link will show ya every little difference. The newer 4.7s can be very finnicky w/ swaps and arent exactly the same if out of a durango if Ive read up correctly I suggest working what you got over a swap to a different engine it sometimes becomes more of a hassle than doing some work to your current engine just mho. Keep us updated though.

that WJjeeps site really covers most of it

as for installing a engine that was NOT available in any vehicle, like putting a 5.7L Hemi in a vehicle built in 2000, would not pass the smog laws in a state that is strict, like California

The 5.7 swap may be in my future. It seems a bit more expensive to find a used one with under 90K miles on it though. I see the 4.7 HO motors quite often however.
