If you look at old ads alot of times it was advertised chrysler/jeep/dodge/dodge trucks they always signified dodge trucks to be a seperate brand almost especially pre1994 so I guess now its just offical I have no problem w/ it makes for cooler ads, knick knacks, online prescence etc. imho if im not mistaken the new Rams say dodge more than my 05 lol

The Equipment shop liked the hell out of them, because unlike the other pickups, they didn't need hardly any repairs, just normal servicing.

I loved my '98. The only stock problem it had was ball joints. They went bad if you looked at 'em funny. I had a ton of other front end problems but they were self inflicted due to larger tires and not knowing what I was doing when I lifted it and did my own alignment. Everyone told me not to buy it because of the tranny but I beat the hell outta that 231 HD and it never even blinked. I wheeled through rock fields filled with rocks bigger than my head, did brake stands and giant smoky doughnuts for 7 years and it never failed. A few engine and airflow mods and I was pushing 270HP at the wheel from a 318. All in a midsize truck that looked good too. I miss that truck.

I think I would have bought it no matter what the name was. The problem I think the Dakota has now is that it looks like ass. That's my personal opinion but it seems to be the consensus from those I've talked to. They took away all the muscley lines and replaced them with sharp angles. Blech.

Personally, if the name is not completely repulsive, I buy a truck based on looks and performance. I don't think the name changes they are proposing are that radical.

i agree 100% actually i think the front of the new kota's look pretty mean. but the body lines are so damn ugly.

i think they should just keep the name dakota but make its own body style (way better than what they are now and more advanced than the late 90's models) but stay within the realms of a truck. no durango styling and especially NO RIDGELINE styling. disgusting

and changing 1500 to 150 and etc. would be too nostalgic and i think they would drive clients away from their trucks

When you get your RAM Dakota....you will probably debadge it anyway so really the point is moot. Or just debadge the RAM part....I don't like it on my fullsize RAM and plan on removing it first warm day I get

I am with you TenneSST, everyone I talk to about it are as surprised as I was when I found out for the first time. If they are going to redesign the Dakota , maybe it is time to drop or change the name.

I think they should change all the rams with the 4.7 in it to The Dodge Ram "KABOOM EDITION"
